Rocky Mountain Thunder Boats kind of got its start in the spring of 2005. A few guys met by accident on a Sunday morning at the head waters pond on the Pueblo Colorado River Walk. They all had one thing in common, R/C model boats. The boats they had brought with them and were running was a mix of styles, Racers, Runabouts, RTRs and full scale cruisers, all had one thing in common, all were electric. Everyone had a great day and this chance meeting became routine. We all thought it would be pretty cool to try and get together every other Sunday for some fun running. In the weeks that followed we had a blast, sport running and boat blasting ! Then on one Sunday morning things started to happen. Rod had brought out a couple of scale racing hydros and an unfinished "Classic Hydros" round nose he had been working on and wanted to test. The testing went well and the boat was a big hit as well as being a blast to drive, and its classic styling was great looking on the water. As the say the rest is history, Rocky Mountain Thunder Boats began that day. By the end of that summer we had enough Classic Hydros running on the water for two full heats. We decided it was official and we had a club. We had our first real race in late summer. We had a blast. We filled the River Walk pond with model vintage hydros and cheering crowds. Rocky Moutain Thunder Boats was off to a solid but not to serious start. In the years that have followed the club has grown in memberships, with with some coming from other states and distant towns. The securing of a much larger private pond. The boat class continent has has also grown with classes that encourage extreme speed, as well as classes that are tightly governed by specific spec rules and builder classes such as "Fast 1/10 Scale Vintage Hydroplane" The main goal of Rocky Mountain Thunder Boats is to have fun through the beauty of rooster tails being cast as model fast electric race boats scream past on the water!
